Getting a Good Start

A news story earlier this week about a Branson, Missouri baby born with two front teeth earlier this weeks started us thinking. Here at Hamlin Dental Group, we're trying to evangelize on behalf of good dental health habits from the earliest ages, but sometimes the message simply falls on deaf ears.

Most people understand the need to brush a couple of times a day, though flossing often takes a bit more persuasion. Still, they don't always understand the urgency of good oral hygiene for the youngest among us. Many tend to assume that it's more a matter of inculcating the right sort of habits in little kids so that they'll continue them at the point where their adult teeth come in.

The problem with this is that this assumes that they so-called "baby teeth" don't really "count," since they fall out eventually anyway. The fact of the matter is that we might get two sets of teeth in a lifetime, but those early teeth still matter a great deal. Moreover, dental problems in childhood can have a number of unpleasant long-term impacts. At Hamlin, we're committed to the kind of family dentistry that treats teeth of all age like they really matter, because they do!
