Can Cavities Fight Cancer?

Is it possible that dental cavities can be good for you? Sort of, according to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). The study suggests that individuals with more dental cavities are less likely to be diagnosed with head or neck cancer.

Physicians associated with the study are quick to note that JAMA's findings, conducted over an eight year period, only reveal a correlation between head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and cavities; however, correlation does not necessarily equal causation. Tooth decay remains harmful and can result in a surprising variety of health concerns. The good news is that cavities are a totally preventable and manageable problem, and Hamlin Dental Group is uniquely equipped to improve the dental situations of patients all over the Los Angeles area.

Dr. Hamid Reza, the celebrated dentist in Northridge who founded Hamlin Dental Group, has practiced dentistry for nearly twenty years. In that time, he has worked hard to painstakingly assemble a staff that dedicated to providing patients with exceptionally professional dental care. And while the other dentists, hygienists and assistants at Hamlin Dental Group's three Los Angeles area locations—including North Hollywood, Northridge and Van Nuys—are highly experienced, we also offer a warm and gentle approach that brings people and their families back for more!

If you are interested in finding a quality dentist in North Hollywood, do not hesitate to contact Hamlin Dental Group at 888-400-8011 and book an appointment, or visit us online at www.hamlindentalgroup.com today.

Nanodiamonds May be the Future of Dentistry, but Hamlin Dental Group Provides the Best Dental Service Today

At Hamlin Dental Group, we are happy to provide the gentle, warm dentistry that is appreciated by all. Through our world-class medical skills and extensive knowledge of dental procedures, we have come to be known as the dentist in Northridge, North Hollywood, and throughout the San Fernando Valley that Southern California residents trust. That's why, when we read exciting news regarding the future of dentistry, we can't help but share it with our many loyal patients and supporters.

One such piece of news was reported today from Health Canal, and tells of UCLA researchers who have discovered that diamonds on a very small scale could potentially be used to promote bone growth and the durability of dental implants.Nanodiamonds, which are created as byproducts of conventional mining and refining operations, are approximately four to five nanometers in diameter and shaped like tiny soccer balls.

At the UCLA School of Dentistry, the UCLA Department of Bioengineering and Northwestern University, alongside collaborators at the NanoCarbon Research Institute in Japan, might have found a way to use them to improve bone growht and combat osteonecrosis, a disease in which bones break down due to reduced blood flow.

"The discovery serves as a foundation for the future of nanotechnology in dentistry, orthopedics and other domains in medicine," says Dr. No-Hee Park, dean of the UCLA School of Dentistry. "Dr. Ho and his team have demonstrated the enormous potential of the nanodiamonds toward improving patient care. He is a pioneer in his field."

Nanodiamond technology may be a ways away, yet, but you can rest assured that as the premier dentist in Van Nuys, at Hamlin Dental Group, we're proud of our reputation for providing our patients with the best dentistry available today. If you're seeking truly effective dentistry with a conservative approach, contact Hamlin Dental Group today.

No Tweet Required

We were more than a little amused to read about the new promotion Colgate has going for their new Slim Soft toothbrush. "There's Something in Your Tweet" allows consumers who spot something in a friend's teeth to inform them via Twitter when they spot a stray piece of food that's gotten visibly stuck. Apparently, the idea is that most of us would like to be told when that happens but many of us are fearful of bringing it up, even to a close friend. You don't have to be a dentist in North Hollywood to not want to look at something like that or been seen with it, but you also don't have to be Emily Post to be concerned about the etiquette of the situation.

At Hamlin Dental Group we get the idea. In a group situation, it certainly might be embarrassing for the recipient of such a message to be told something like that. Better, in fact, to send a quick text or tweet than to interrupt the Vice President of your company in a middle of an important meeting because she has some bell pepper caught on one of her central incisors.

On the other hand, there's a time and a place for bluntness. We know people who are fearful to mention things as trivial as stuck food, even in an one-on-one situation where it's really no big deal. We'd rather just be told. Indeed, as an outstanding dentist in Van Nuys, Northridge and North Hollywood, we hope that our patients can be honest with us if we've made a mistake of some sort and have the equivalent of a telltale piece of pepperoni stuck in our metaphorical teeth.

If you come to offices and something isn't quite right, don't be afraid to tell us nicely but right to our face. No tweet required!
