Roling, a public-health dentist and Janice Grutzius, program coordinator for the dental-sealant programs at the County Health Department, are taking advantage of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program. While the program provides free meals to low-income children when school is not in session, this is the first time it has been used to offer free dental screenings and services at the same time.


The program is exceedingly necessary in Arizona, which ranks third-worst in the U.S. for dental decay, due largely to a relatively high percentage of children living under the poverty line.
