Keep Your Fangs Sharp and Healthy with Great Oral Hygiene!

Ghosts. Ghouls. Spooks. Witches. Draculas. Each is a frightening beast that you'll no doubt come across on this most eerie of nights. However, at Hamlin Dental Group, we want you to remember that there's more than creepy spirits going bump in the night to be afraid of during the Halloween season.

November is a busy time of year at our gentle family dentistry facility, and after a night of trick-or-treating, it should be no surprise why. All those chocolates, sweets and sugary candies can lead to seriously scary tooth decay and cavities long after the jack-o-lanterns have been put away in favor of turkeys and stuffing. To make sure your mouth is prepared for next month's holiday feast, we want to remind you to be extra careful to avoid cavities from Halloween candy.

Cavities are permanently damaged areas in the hard surface of your teeth that create tiny holes. If cavities go untreated, they get harder to treat, and can lead to serious long-term issues. So what's a trick-or-treat enthusiast to do? Practice good oral hygiene! Regular visits to our team at Hamlin Dental Group and brushing and flossing daily can go a long way toward protecting your teeth. So enjoy your scary night, and keep hygiene in mind with Hamlin Dental Group.

Boo! Don't Get Spooked by Cavities This Halloween

At this time next week, as the sun is setting, kids across the country won't be getting ready for bed, but will instead be preparing to storm their neighborhoods as pirates, superheroes, witches, ghosts and ghouls of all types. Yep, it's Halloween again! At Hamlin Dental Group, we get into the eerie spirit of the season in our own right - we love the scary atmosphere and fun costumes. However, as the most trusted Northridge, North Hollywood and Van Nuys dentist, we encourage kids and adults alike to make sure they protect their teeth from sugary candies that are so common during the Halloween season.

When checking out your Trick-or-Treat haul, you might want to avoid treats like:

  • Caramel and Popcorn Balls - Kernels can get stuck between your teeth, and caramel can be tricky to brush off of teeth.
  • Taffy - Just like Caramel, it is basically pure sugar, and it can easily get stuck in hard-to-reach places between your teeth.
  • Sour Candies - These have a high acidity that can break down the enamel on your teeth
So we don't leave you on a sour note (get it?), here are some of the better choices recommended from your dentist in North Hollywood:

  • Dark Chocolate
  • Pretzels
  •  Peanut Butter Cups - Yep! This Halloween favorite is actually not too bad at all for your teeth!
Remember, no matter what candies you enjoy this Halloween, the most important way to protect your teeth is to schedule an appointment with a first-rate dentist at Hamlin Dental Group!
