Not Your Father's Dental Treatment?

With Father's Day this past weekend, our team at Hamlin Dental Group was happy to think about the dads, and other men that have played a meaningful in our lives. We appreciate great dads, and as our fathers get older, we've come to appreciate them even more. That's why we wanted to share some non-too-pleasing news regarding men and oral hygiene.

The NBC affiliate in Minnesota recently reported on a study from the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association which showed that men are less likely than women to seek preventative dental care. Sure, dad may act tough, but when it comes to dental work, turns out he can be quite the scaredy-cat!

How much exactly do men avoid the dental chair? Some actually avoid undergoing treatment for years! The ADA says that the average man is less likely to brush his teeth after every meal, too, with only 20.5% brushing regularly, compared to 28.7% of women, while 49% brush twice a day, compared with 56.8% of women.

At Hamlin Dental Group, we can't say that we're surprised about the next piece of info in the study - turns out, men are more likely to develop gum disease than women for most age groups. Fellas, we love ya, so please, make time to for a visit to the dentist. No matter how strong you are, you can beat gum disease, cavities, and other health issues without a top-quality dentist. And when you visit our gentle dentist in Northridge, Van Nuys and North Hollywood, you can enjoy top-notch dentistry without fearing the usual discomfort!
