There's no getting around it, oral health is serious business. That seriousness was driven home to us recently by a University of Florida study indicating that the same bacteria responsible for gum disease, aka gingivitis, in laboratory mice was also a cause of heart disease in the same mice. While mice are not people, this is serious science and we at Hamlin Dental Group know that what we do is about more than making sure our patients have nice smiles.
Of course, that wasn't the only study released recently. There's also the one from the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry indicating that red wine (and grapeseed extract, but who cares about that?!) appears to promote the health of teeth. Whether you're a
dentist in Northridge or anyone else who appreciates a good, red wine, you have to take some comfort in that.
There's a tendency out there to assume that if we enjoy something, it must in some sense be bad for us; conversely, we often assume that things we dislike must be somehow good for us. The truth of the matter is that, thank goodness, is it never so simple. Oral health and happiness can definitely coincide and they should. After all, what's the point of having a nice smile if you don't have a reason to?
If you're looking for a bit of help with your smile, while not take advantage of a friendly and not overly serious dentist in North Hollywood, Northridge, or Van Nuys?
