From Sea to Shining Teeth!

And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof to the night, that our flag was still there...

Yep, it's 4th of July again, and while that might just be another day in much of the world, in the U.S. it's the day we celebrate our independence, and we do so the way Americans know best: with explosions and yummy treats!

While hot dogs and burgers off the grill, fresh apple pie and s'mores are undoubtedly delicious, let's be honest - they're not the best thing in the world for your teeth! Of course, at Hamlin Dental Group, we believe in gentle dentistry and good oral hygiene, but we also believe in personal freedom, so we'll leave your 4th of July BBQ choices up to you. However, we'd also like to make a few health conscious suggestions:

For instance, instead of a sugary ice cream and pie, our dentist in Northridge suggests you satisfy your sweet tooth with a patriotic parfait made up of raspberries, cherries, blueberries, and vanilla-infused Greek yogurt parfait. You can also put a bit of zing in your American spirit by embracing our melting pot of cultures with spicy options like Bare Naked Nachos - dressed with mozzarella cheese, chicken an dip, or Blackberry, Strawberry, Basil and Brie Pizza Crisps!

Look, we don't want to get in the way of an American tradition, we're just saying, part of what makes America great is our freedom to make our own food choices. We certainly hope that you'll continue to choose our friendly dentist in North Hollywood for your dental needs!

Hamlin Dental Group Dentists Are Not So Scary

We remember being scared of going to our North Hollywood dentist as children. Sure it meant we got to take a part of the day off from school, but the thought of being strapped down to that over-elongated dentist’s chair with a light blue drool napkin tied around our necks brought shivers down our spines!  Our fears were pretty strong, but it never got to the point where any one of us actually created a elaborate story in order to escape that annual check-up!

We just heard about the 12 year old boy in France who faked his own kidnapping to avoid going to the dentist. The boy invented an amazing story of how he was captured by a scar-faced villain who lured him to his car for directions in Bagnols as he was heading to his family dentistry. For a month he had appeared to have gotten away scot-free with this story, until officers called him in for questioning once more, after reviewing security footage from the city. When confronted about his tall tale, the boy confessed to making the entire story up so he wouldn't have to go to the dentist. Funny how he was extremely scared of going to the dentist, but very brave when it came to lying to the police!

Hamlin Dental Group does not want you or your family to ever fear our dentists to this degree! That’s we always try to make everyone, young and old, feel comfortable, and relaxed as possible.

Not Your Father's Dental Treatment?

With Father's Day this past weekend, our team at Hamlin Dental Group was happy to think about the dads, and other men that have played a meaningful in our lives. We appreciate great dads, and as our fathers get older, we've come to appreciate them even more. That's why we wanted to share some non-too-pleasing news regarding men and oral hygiene.

The NBC affiliate in Minnesota recently reported on a study from the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association which showed that men are less likely than women to seek preventative dental care. Sure, dad may act tough, but when it comes to dental work, turns out he can be quite the scaredy-cat!

How much exactly do men avoid the dental chair? Some actually avoid undergoing treatment for years! The ADA says that the average man is less likely to brush his teeth after every meal, too, with only 20.5% brushing regularly, compared to 28.7% of women, while 49% brush twice a day, compared with 56.8% of women.

At Hamlin Dental Group, we can't say that we're surprised about the next piece of info in the study - turns out, men are more likely to develop gum disease than women for most age groups. Fellas, we love ya, so please, make time to for a visit to the dentist. No matter how strong you are, you can beat gum disease, cavities, and other health issues without a top-quality dentist. And when you visit our gentle dentist in Northridge, Van Nuys and North Hollywood, you can enjoy top-notch dentistry without fearing the usual discomfort!

Hamlin makes you smile, after AND before your visit!

At Hamlin Dental Group it is a top priority that our clients feel relaxed and comfortable. We know a dentist visit isn't exactly your favorite appointment on your calendar - but we do what we can to ease the pain! We love seeing our clients leave with shining smiles on their faces, but we also like to make sure you are smiling when you come in. For those of you who need a little help, think about these the next time you come in:

A patient sits in the dental chair with severley fractured front teeth. After discussing how they will be restored and what the fee would be the patient says, "Before we begin, Doc, I gotta know: Will I be able to play the trumpet when your are finished?"

The dentist in Northridge replies, "Sure you will."

The patient replies, "Great, I couldn't play a note before!"

Some shorties but goodies:

What does the dentist of the year get? A little plaque
What does a dentist do on a roller coaster? He braces himself.
Where does the dentist in North Hollywood get his gas? The filling station.

We hope that works ;) !!
