How to Care for Tiny Teeth

Here at Hamlin Dental Group our priority is to promote good oral hygiene for patients of all agents, and that includes the youngest patients with the newest teeth. Many first time parents understandably have plenty of questions when it comes to knowing what kind of dental care to give, but as leading center for family dentistry our expert team has your back with the answers you need!

  • Good dental care begins even before the first teeth appear! Get into the habit of gently wiping your baby’s gums with a soft, clean rag. This prevents the build-up of bacteria.
  • When the primary teeth appear, brush them gently with a soft, child’s brush and a very tiny amount of fluoride toothpaste.
  • Take them to their first dental checkup by their first birthday.
  • When they get old enough, help your child brush on their own to instill strong dental habits and reinforce good oral hygiene.

If you do your part as a parent to help protect your kid’s teeth, and partner up with an experienced dentist like Hamlin, your kids will be sure to have a future with bright, healthy teeth!

The Most Popular Procedures, Done Right

According to a new survey, the majority of work done by dentists is now cosmetic and restorative procedures. 96% of general dentists reported that they have routinely done “non-implant restorative” work that includes sought after procedures like crowns, and veneers. With so much competition, it can be difficult to find which dentists will provide the best possible treatment. Luckily, you can’t go wrong with Hamlin Dental Group for your family's oral hygiene.

Our cosmetic dentists have years of experience performing all of these procedures and more. While a large number of our patients begin by scheduling regular bi-annual family dentistry visits, they quickly steer toward our cosmetic treatment options once they come to know the skill of our dentists.

In addition to the non-implant work, we are also qualified to place dental implants to give patients a complete smile makeover. Implants are a very important part of restorative dentistry, but according to the new results, only 22% of all general dentists routinely do them. The talented dentists at Hamlin Dental Group are some of the select few, and they do so with the utmost attention to patient comfort and care.

The Proper Way to Brush

Here at the Hamlin Dental Group we’re vested in providing you with the best dental experience possible. As a popular center for  family dentistry we’re well known for our warm, gentle care. However, good oral health always start with you. That’s why you need to develop good dental habits and practices to make sure your teeth stay in good shape between visits. It might seem pretty basic, but a surprising amount of people don’t brush their teeth correctly! Here’s how to do it:
·

  • Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.
  • Gently move the brush back and forth in short (tooth-wide) strokes.
  • Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth.
  • To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.
  • Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and keep your breath fresh.

Use this technique, and don’t forget to check in with a top dentist like Hamlin Dental Group for maximum oral hygiene!

The Truth About Flossing

What’s the deal with flossing? We’ve all been told our entire lives that flossing is key for keeping good oral hygiene, but it can be a hassle, and it seems like not that many people actually do it. So is it really necessary? We get these questions all the time here at Hamlin Dental Group. Flossing seems like the one routine many of us feel like we could do without (and many do). So how necessary is it really? Here’s the short answer: it’s not necessary at all. That is, only if you don’t want to have clean teeth. And you should.

Here are the quick details: brushing only cleans 60% of the surface of your teeth. That other 40% can only be reached by flossing, and you don’t want to miss it. If you do, plaque can build up  and increase your chances of developing gum disease. And since the bacteria in gum disease has been linked to the bacteria that causes heart disease, why take any chances? As a popular center for family dentistry, here at Hamlin, we think the choice is simple: floss those teeth!
